Gloriosa superba is known as 'Agnishika' in
Sanskrit, 'Kalihari' in Hindi and 'Menthoni' in Malayalam. All parts of the
Gloriosa superba are poisonous. The underground stems which are tubers are
extremely poisonous due to the presence of toxic alkaloids like colchicine.
